Eco-Adventures in Upernavik: Kayak & Coastal Cleanup Tour

On May 14, 2026 a kayak group of 5 joined for a 9.5 km eco-adventure paddling tour around Upernavik Island. As the snow and sea ice melt and migratory birds return, we explore our coastal paradise by kayak while collecting plastic waste from both sea and shoreline. This guided trip combined Arctic nature, light exercise, and hands-on environmental action, suitable for participants with basic fitness and a love of the outdoors.

We provide all essential paddling gear: drysuit, neoprene pogies, neoprene kayak shoes, fleece layers under the drysuit, life jacket for kayaing, and neoprene sprayskirt. You bring curiosity, warm socks, and a willingness to help keep Upernavik’s waters clean. Together we paddle, clean, and celebrate a wilder, healthier coast.

During the tour, we move at a relaxed pace, stopping regularly to collect visible plastic and marine debris from the water and nearby beaches. Your guide shares local insights about Upernavik’s changing seasons, wildlife, and the impact of ocean plastics on Arctic ecosystems. With the return of seabirds and the last patches of snow disappearing, this is a unique moment to experience the coastline waking up after winter.

No advanced kayaking skills are required, but you should be comfortable spending several hours outside in cool conditions. Our high-quality equipment keeps you warm and dry, while safety and respect for nature remain our top priorities. By the end of the day, you will have paddled through stunning scenery and helped protect our fragile coastal environment.
